37th IAEA Annual Conference - Assessment and the Challenge of Globalization
Date : 23-10-2011 - 28-10-2011
Manille
Organisation : International Association for Educational Assessment (IAEA)
Programme :
Globalization has become a major source of social change and has had unprecedented impact on the educational systems of nations across the world. As never before, assessments now play a more critical role in transforming educational policy, practice and technology so that locally-based knowledge and skills can be integrated with the demands of the global workplace.
The phenomenon of worldwide migration challenges assessment and qualification frameworks of both host cultures and source cultures in assuring the quality of human talent as people move around, relocate and settle in different places.
Concerns and issues about the applicability to other settings of assessment frameworks and technologies conceived and crafted in more advanced, globalized learning societies are central to the theme of the conference.
Areas of concern
* Instruction and assessment in multicultural contexts
* Globalization of standards in academic and vocational milieus
* The significance of international comparisons of student achievement
* The merits of indigenous and indigenized assessments
* Regional migration and its impact on local assessment systems
* The ethics of assessment in a globalizing world
15 April 2011 Last day for submission of proposals form and abstracts.
